ATR 42/72 Type Rating

The ATR 42/72 Type Rating programme is tailored to prepare pilots for the unique operational environment of regional turboprop aviation, combining technical expertise with practical airline-oriented training. Designed around the operational philosophy of the ATR fleet, the course focuses on efficiency, precision, and adaptability in short-haul and high-frequency operations.

Throughout the programme, pilots gain an in-depth understanding of aircraft systems, turboprop performance characteristics, operational procedures, and flight management, while developing the skills required to operate in diverse airport environments and varying weather conditions.

The training integrates theoretical instruction, procedural training, and Full Flight Simulator sessions, with particular emphasis on handling techniques, energy management, abnormal scenarios, and effective multi-crew cooperation.

Entry Requirements

  • Valid ATPL or CPL with ATPL theory credit*
  • Current ME/IR rating* or holder of other type rating*
  • Holder of MCC** certificate or 500hrs on Multi Pilot Airplane experience
  • Valid Class 1 Medical certificate
  • English Language Proficiency min level 4

* For ICAO licences, items with asterisk are subject to local competent authority regulations and may not be required.

** If no MCC certificate, the course can be integrated in the Type Rating

Initial Type Rating / EASA

  • Web Based Training (WBT) self-study: 42 hrs
  • Theory Training and Exams: 18 hrs
  • Flight Simulator Type Rating Training: 32 hrs
  • Flight Simulator License Skill Test: 4 hrs

Additional MCC Course / EASA

  • Online self-study: 30 hrs
  • Classroom Theory Training – Instructor: 21 hrs
  • Flight Simulator Training: 10 hrs

Additional Courses (e.g. LVO, PBN, ZFTT)

  • Training Session: 4 hrs
  • Examining Session: 4 hrs
