ICAO Aviation English Language Proficiency Test

JETSTREAM Aviation Academy is officially approved by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) to conduct ICAO-compliant Aviation English Language Proficiency Tests.

In partnership with Global Aviation Language Ltd (UK), we utilize the ALPHA-TANGO testing system, fully aligned with ICAO and EASA Part-FCL standards. The test assesses both spoken and listening proficiency in aviation-specific contexts.

Test Overview

  • Location: JETSTREAM Athens or Dubai
  • Availability: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00
  • Duration:
    • 15-minute familiarization/practice test
    • 40-minute official certification test
  • Format:
    • Computer-based (text and audio prompts)
    • All responses given orally
    • Assessed by two HCAA-authorized raters
  • Assessment Criteria:
    Based on ICAO guidelines across six core competencies
  • Scoring:
    Graded from Level 1 to Level 6

Language Proficiency Levels

  • Level 6 (Expert): Valid for life
  • Level 5 (Extended): Valid for 6 years
  • Level 4 (Operational): Valid for 4 years

Pilots who attain Level 4 or 5 may retake the exam in the future to achieve Level 6 and eliminate the need for periodic re-testing.
Note: A result below Level 4 (i.e., Levels 1–3) does not meet the minimum standard for licence issuance.

Preparation

Candidates receive clear guidance and preparation time before the test begins, including sample questions and format explanation.

Certification

Upon successful completion, JETSTREAM issues an HCAA Examination Report Form, which serves as the official record to have your “Language Proficiency English Level” endorsed on your pilot licence.
