Flight Instructor Rating (FI)

• 1 hour Pre-FI Assessment Flight
• 25 hours of Teaching and Learning Activities
• Minimum of 100 hours of Theoretical Knowledge Instruction, which includes regular progress assessments
• At least 30 hours of Flight Instruction, comprising:
  • 25 hours of dual flight instruction
  • Up to 5 hours of flight training may be conducted using a Full Flight Simulator (FFS), FNPT I or II, or an FTD Level 2/3
  • At least 10 hours of instrument flight training on the relevant aircraft category, with no more than 5 hours counted as instrument ground time in a Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD).
  • Completion of 20 hours of Visual Flight Rules (VFR) cross-country flight time as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) on the relevant aircraft category.

• Hold at least a Commercial Pilot License (CPL(A));
  Or
• Hold at least a Private Pilot License (PPL(A)) and satisfy the following:
  • Successfully pass the CPL theoretical knowledge examination (this exam may be taken without completing a CPL theoretical training course but is not valid for CPL issuance).
  • Complete a minimum of 200 total flight hours on aeroplanes, including at least 150 hours as PIC.
  • Log at least 30 hours on single-engine piston aeroplanes, including a minimum of 5 hours within the 6 months preceding the pre-entry flight test per FCL.930.FI(a).
  • Complete a VFR cross-country flight as PIC of at least 540 km (300 NM), with full-stop landings at two different aerodromes.

A minimum of 250 total flight hours as pilot on helicopters, including:

• At least 100 hours as PIC if holding at least a CPL(H);
• Or at least 200 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) if holding a PPL(H) and having successfully passed the CPL theoretical knowledge examinations (which may be taken without completing an approved CPL theoretical training course, but are not valid for the issuance of a CPL).
